Who created Little Smudgeez?
After finding that northern Nevada had no cloth diaper resources or presence, Adrienne Snow (daughter) and Becky Sarnowski (mother), began sewing diapers out of their home and selling them locally. As word spread about Little Smudgeez, orders began coming in from all over the country and abroad. Becky’s son, Justin Sarnowski, began helping with the family business by creating a website for the small company and taking the lead in building their online store and getting the word out nationally about Little Smudgeez.
Why should I purchase from Little Smudgeez?
There are a lot of cloth diaper stores and brands from which to choose. We are very aware of the competition in the market place. It has taken us a long time to design Little Smudgeez diapers. When purchasing from Little Smudgeez, you are supporting a business that: • Offers your baby safe, soft, and beautiful natural fiber diapers • Gives back to the community • Works tirelessly to educate and offer support to parents using cloth diapers • Is trying to grow in order to create jobs and help America get back on track economically • Is part Veteran owned and supports military families
What should I buy? How many diapers do I need?
If you are going to be a full time cloth diapering parent that is trying to find the balance between convenience and budget we suggest:
For a newborn baby:
- 12 All In Two diapers
- 12 Prefold diapers
- 2 Snappis
- 2 Bummis Whisper Pant Covers
- 1 Bag of Rockin Green detergent
- 1 dozen wipes
- 1 wet bag (yuck sack)
Don’t forget that Little Smudgeez offers a baby registry. The only thing better than cute luxurious fluff is cute luxurious fluff that is sent to you by friends and family that want you and baby to have the very best when it comes to diapers.
For those that want a top of the line easy to use system, try this:
- 18 All In Two diapers
- 6 Fitted diapers
- 1 Bummis Whisper pant
- 1 Bummis Super Brite
- 2 dozen wipes
- 2 wet bags
- 1 Bag of Rockin Green
Keep in mind, even in choosing all “modern styles” of diapers, you are still saving money when compared to diapering with disposables, AND you are choosing the most comfortable diapers available for your baby.
Why do you use bamboo?
There is a positive and negative attribute to EVERY fabric type you could choose to use in cloth diapering. Little Smudgeez prefers natural fibers over synthetic fibers, and when we first felt bamboo fabrics we were in love. Bamboo could quite possibly be one of the most buttery soft fabrics on the face of the planet. Bamboo is also more absorbent than cotton by about 60% weight for weight. In all honesty, the feel and absorbency of it is why we chose bamboo as our staple for Little Smudgeez brand products. The fact that it is one of the most renewable plants on earth isn’t too bad either.

Can I get additional snap in inserts for the diapers?
Many parents choose to fold the snap-in soaker down on our Adjustables when using the diaper on the smallest setting, as this is the most cost effective thing to do. For parents that would like a smaller insert for use on the smallest settings of the diaper, you can purchase these inserts separately here on our site under “inserts”. We also offer the standard sizes for those who need a replacement. Size 1 diapers come standard with a “small” snap-in. Size 2 diapers come standard with “large” snap-in.
Do you offer discounts for large orders?
We have multiple “packages” put together for various styles of diapers. Yes, you do save money when buying in bulk. Please look at our All-In-Two diapers, as well as fitteds afnd contours to see the great deals we’ve put together for you. I won a Little Smudgeez item, can I exchange it for something else? I have an issue with my diaper sprayer, what should I do?
There is a 1 year warranty on diaper sprayers from the date of purchase for defective merchandise. You must have your receipt to submit to the manufacturer. There are no refunds on diaper sprayers, but you can expect to have it exchanged for a new one. If you need to exchange a sprayer, please fill out this form and return it with the sprayer and a copy of your receipt for an exchange.
How do I prepare my diapers?
Bamboo takes about 10 washes to fully prepare. They need to be “prepared” because new fibers tend to resist moisture. You can observe this by pouring a cup of water into your new Little Smudgeez diaper. The water will roll off before being prepped, but after about 10 washes, if you do this same test, the water will immediately soak into the diaper. We recommend the first few washes be done in hot water. You can use soap for the first or second prepping cycles, but it is unnecessary after that (please note this is only in reference to prepping).
How do I strip my diapers?
We recommend doing a soak with Rockin Green detergent (the directions are on the bag). If a regular soak doesn’t work, try using Rockin Green’s Funk Rock ammonia buster. Load for load, Rockin Green is competitively priced and worth its weight in gold for the job it does taking care of your fluff.
My diapers smell funny, how can I wash them better?
We recommend using Rockin Green on your diapers. This company has gone to great lengths to develop detergent specifically for cloth diapers and ammonia buildup. If you still have smell issues after following the directions on the package of Rockin Green detergent, we suggest using the Funk Rock.
$24 seems like a lot of money for one diaper. How can I possibly be saving money over disposables?
The price of disposable diapers ranges from approximately $.26-$.46 each. Smaller disposable diapers are less expensive but you will need more of them in a day. As your baby grows and uses fewer diapers each day the price goes up per unit. The average child will go through 6,000-9,000 diaper changes before graduating from diapers. So, here is a fair comparison for those who find it difficult to justify spending $24 on a single cloth diaper.
Disposable Diapers:7,500 diapers x $.35 each = $2,625.00 9,000 wipes x $.02 each= $180.00Total for one child= $2,805.00What you have when you are done diapering: NOTHING
Cloth Diapers:24 Size 1 All-In-Two diapers (fits 0-6 mos) $24 each= $57624 Size 2 All-In-Two diapers (fits 7 mos-2.5 years) $24 each= $57636 cloth wipes= $42One dozen infant prefolds= $24One dozen premium prefolds = $38 6 Basic covers $6 each (2 small, 2 medium, 2 large)= $36 2 Snappi fasteners= $7 Total for diapers and accessories that can be used on 2-3 children= $1299 for the 1st child, $649 if you use this same stash on two children What you have when you are done diapering? 72 cloth diapers, 36 wipes, 6 covers and 2 snappis. (remember that they replace between 6,000 & 20,000 disposable diapers)
What about the cost of doing laundry? Doesn’t that make cloth diapering more expensive?
The average load including soap, water, and energy will run you about $.80 a load. If you wash your diapers 3 times a week here is what laundry will cost you.
$.80 per load x 3 loads x 52 weeks per year x 2.5 years = $312 for laundry ($124.80 per year)
If you want to add in the cost of laundry, we ask that you remember to add in the equivalent costs of disposable diapering (like a diaper Genie and the plastic refills). We often see parents decide whether or not to cloth diaper based on the savings margin. We invite you to consider the issues beyond cost. How much is the health and comfort of your child worth? How much is the health of our planet worth?
What are the environmental impacts of diapering?
Most of the families you know are probably using disposable diapers. They think it is easier and less messy, but the truth is it is only easier in the moment. What they aren’t considering is how their decision collectively contributes to a problem that is growing more massive every day. A disposable diaper will take at least 500 years to fully break down. Each child uses 6000-9000 diapers in his or her early life. As a country, we toss roughly 27 BILLION diapers into our landfills. To make matters worse, the contents of the diapers are meant to go to our sanitation departments that have the tools necessary to deal with human waste properly.
We’ve had moms ask about water usage in an attempt to argue that cloth too has a downside. They are correct. You do use water to wash cloth diapers. What they aren’t considering when posing this question in defense of disposable diapering is that it takes water to manufacture a disposable diaper.
Disposable Diaper- The general production of a disposable diaper takes water, wood pulp, cotton, bleach, synthetic gel, and other substances to “become” a diaper. It then has to be packaged and shipped (using fossil fuel). This process of creating new diapers must happen over, and over, over……………………………
Cloth diapers don’t have to be “manufactured” over and over. They don’t have to be trucked over and over. Approximately 50-60 diapers can take the place of 6000-9000 disposable diapers, and if they are used on subsequent children, those same 50-60 diapers could ultimately equal 27,000 disposable diapers (if used on 3 children). Just think what that would mean to our environment if 1 out of 4 families chose cloth instead of paper and plastic diapers.
What are the other reasons I should consider cloth?
Health is always something to consider. Disposable diapers are made of bleached paper (most major brands), plastic, synthetic gel, and sticky tape. The bleaching process leaves traces of dioxin, which is a carcinogen. Ask yourself this: if there is wet bleached paper against my baby’s skin 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for nearly 2.5 years, how much bleach is going into my baby? It is certainly food for thought.
Our favorite reason is probably the simplest. COMFORT. Your sweet baby has spent 9 months safely nestled in your womb. You’ve taken all the right classes and read more books than you can count. The fact is, diapers affect babies more than virtually any other “thing” the parents have put so much time and energy into. The first thing that comes into contact with your baby is his or her first diaper. Think about it for just one minute. If someone asked you this just seconds after birth, what would your answer be: Mrs. X, would you like me to put the paper, plastic, gel and sticky tab diaper on your baby, or did you want me to use the fleece, velour, snapping diaper on your baby? When all the marketing mumbo jumbo is removed from the description of each diaper, there is no doubt what choice we think most parents would make. Cloth is best.
Aren’t cloth diapers a lot of work?
We get this question almost daily. The truth is cloth diapers take an average of 0-30 seconds more time per change than disposables so. If a diaper only contains urine, it takes no more time to deal with than a disposable. If the diaper contains feces, it takes 20-30 seconds longer to deal with than a disposable. So if you have on average 3 diapers a day containing feces, you are giving up 1 minute and 30 seconds of your day to provide you baby with a more comfortable and healthy option. You are giving up 1 minute and 30 seconds to treat our environment with respect and care, and you are giving up that time for what undoubtedly saves your household money. The owners of Little Smudgeez actually do regular “research” by doing a count from the time the diaper comes off until it is sprayed out and in the pail. Owner Adrienne Snow averages 18 extra seconds when compared with disposing of a paper diaper in the garbage. (As a side note, most disposable diaper packaging instructs you to dispose of the contents of the diaper into the toilet before tossing in the garbage (many municipalities have legal statutes regarding the improper disposal of human waste). So if you compare the “extra” seconds added during a cloth diaper change to the time it would take to PROPERLY dispose of a paper diaper, there is actually no “extra” time involved at all, just less money.
How does Little Smudgeez sizing work? Can you compare it to other brands?
The truth is there really isn’t a “One Size” diaper that we’ve found that really does fit well from birth to 35 pounds. In reality, if you read the fine print of most sites that offer OS diapers, they also offer a “newborn size”. So technically speaking, they would have two sizes. We are straight shooters at Little Smudgeez, and we like calling a spade a spade. Our Adjustable system consists of two sizes that fit MOST babies from birth (6 lbs) to potty learning (about 32 pounds). We do offer a true newborn diaper that is probably one of the tiniest diapers on the market. We only suggest that you purchase these if you are expecting a preemie, a low weight baby, smaller multiples, or you are fully aware that these diapers will only last about 6 weeks for a normal weight newborn.
Newborn - 5-10 pounds Size 1- 6-15 pounds Size 2- 16- 32 pounds
