What type of diaper is the easiest to use?

If you are looking for a diaper that is easy to put on your baby and easy to clean, we believe the All-In-One diapers are the best candidate.  AIO diapers are the favored diaper of dads and babysitters as they are as easy to use as a disposable.

What type of diaper is the most cost effective?

If budget is your primary concern, prefold diapers and covers are ideal.  They don’t have all the bells and whistles of AIO diapers, but they are tried and true.  Snappis make using prefolds a “snap”.

Why use fitted diapers instead of AIO diapers?  What is the point?

Fitted diapers are more breathable than AIOs.  Though you do need to use a cover with these under clothing, you can let your child wear a fitted around the house or outside without a cover.  Cost is also a factor, as fitted diapers are less expensive than AIOs.  You can have 4 fitteds to 3 AIOs in terms of price.

How do you wash Little Smudgeez diapers?

Whether you use prefolds, fitteds, or AIOs, the wash routine is the same.  When a child has soiled a diaper, dump any solids into the toilet.  We HIGHLY suggest investing in a diaper sprayer for ease of use and dealing with those particularly sticky messes.  Once the diaper is free of solids, place in a pail with water to soak.  To eliminate build up of smell, soak with vinegar and baking soda or Bac-Out.  When your pail is full, place the diapers in the washer.  Use an eco-friendly detergent.  You can select your wash temperature.  If you notice a build up of smell, it is time to use a hotter cycle, and probably an extra rinse cycle, or you can try changing detergent brands.  Hang to dry, or tumble dry on medium.  Stains can be removed by laying diapers out in the sun, and allowing the sun to “bleach” the stain.  Sunning your diapers can also help eliminate smell issues.

How many diapers do I need?
The answer to this question varies from person to person.  You have to consider how often you will do laundry.  Will you wash every other day, or only once a week?  The more often you wash, the fewer you will need.  For a mom diapering one child, we suggest a minimum of two dozen cloth diapers.  The average parent will need to purchase 3 sizes before their child is out of diapers.  Parents using a cleaning service will generally need more diapers than self laundering families, as the pickup/delivery times leave you without part of your stash.  Though the initial cost more expensive than buying a few packages of disposables, it is MUCH less expensive in the long run.  There is also a high demand and large market for previously worn diapers.  Well cared for diapers can generally be sold after being outgrown for an average of 40% of their original price on swapping websites.

I’m pregnant, how soon before my due date should I order?
We suggest having your diapers ready 6 weeks before your due date.  You’ll need to have them washed and ready, and your little one just might decide to come early.

Do you take custom orders?
Yes, with a 20% non-refundable deposit ($30 minimum purchase for custom orders).  If you are looking for a special embroidery piece, call for availability and pricing on a custom order.  “Longies” are available in conjunction with sets, and are done as a custom order.
